Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park has half of the world’s geysers and is the USA’s first national park.

While I usually spend time in national parks hiking as much as possible, I enjoyed covering lots of ground over two days by car in Yellowstone. Driving from one parking lot to another felt like an adventure due to the wildlife spotting and seeing the landscape steaming in the distance. Plus, each sight is spectacular so it is great to try to see as much as possible.

THE APPEAL:

  • wildlife spotting, canyon views, and geysers and geothermal wonders!

LOCATION: Yellowstone national park, wyoming

SEASON:

  • Beat the crowds by visiting in may, september or october.

GETTING THERE:

  • Drive time from Grand Teton National Park: 3 hours

  • Drive time from Bozeman, Montana: 1 hour 20 minutes

TIPS:

  • Two full days in the park is ideal to see all roadside stops.

  • Plan your days to be up early exploring for sunrise, relaxing or hiking off the beaten path during the day, and back to exploring for sunset. This way, you avoid the crowds (and traffic created by wildlife viewing), see all the sights in the best light, and see more (or rare) wildlife.
